Shaping up a Sustainable African Airport Industry: ACI Africa Regional Conference & Exhibition
Lufthansa Consulting will contribute extensively to the 69th ACI Africa Board & Committee Meetings, Regional Conference & Exhibition from 25 February to 3 March 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda. Our team of four experts will play a part in various innovative sessions on strategic topics during this global conference:
On 27 February 2023 Lufthansa Consulting’s Partner and Head of Market Africa, Catrin Drawer, and Senior Consultant Sascha Vogel will participate in the ACI Africa Board Meeting. In the ACI Africa Airport CEOs – Business Partners Exchange they will discuss about potential airport privatization models in Africa by contributing Lufthansa Consulting’s expertise and market knowledge.
In session 2 of the conference program on 28 February Catrin Drawer will present and moderate the panel “Airport Business Models compatible with the Economic Reality”, elaborating on the feasibility of current airport operating models in regard to economics, growth and business diversification.
Over the past 25 years, the airport industry’s landscape has changed considerably. In the 1990’s, virtually all airports in the world were state-run. In the following years, the industry has opened up to external investment in many markets, creating space for a wide range of different ownership and operating models. In Africa, publicly owned airport networks are still the prevalent mode, with countries prioritizing regional connectivity and the economies of scale, and the scope that this model can provide. This panel will examine the suitability of the current airport business models in Africa in the light of prevailing economic, financial, political and social challenges, and the need for evolving towards a more agile airport business environment.
Catrin Drawer will discuss with the panel speakers
- Mr. Emanuel Chaves, President, ACI Africa,
- Mr. Julien Coffinier, Director General, Ravinala Airports, Madagascar,
- Mr. Olivier Baric, Director Aviation Africa, EGIS, and
- Mr. Jorge Benchimol Duarte, Chairman and CEO, Aeroportos E Segurança Aerea S.A., Cape Verde.
Finally, the consultancy’s Associate Partner Arvind Chandrasekhar and Managing Consultant Terence Im will conduct a two days’ workshop on Air Service Development for African airports. In Workshop No. 3 “Best in Class Air Service Development – To grow your airport’s connectivity, start to think like an airline” on 2 – 3 March 2023 the specialists will share insights from their expertise in Lufthansa Consulting’s award-winning Air Service Development projects.
With its strong engagement at this event, Lufthansa Consulting is helping to develop a common vision for the future of airport activities in Africa.
